Our official opening night on September 15 was a fantastic event. It was an exciting evening to share with people from our community who love Geva and find their lives enhanced by the work that we do here.
For us at Geva, it was an all-day event. Woodbury Blvd was closed off and a marquee erected early in the morning. By mid-afternoon the tent was up, tables were dressed awaiting floral arrangements. The red carpet was rolled out and the bar was stocked. Placecards and place settings and chairs – oh my! By 4:30pm the tent was ready to host Geva’s party of the year!
Guests arrived and were entertained in the tent by David James. Canapes and cocktails flowed. There was a genuine buzz in the atmosphere about our upcoming season. At 6:30pm came the speeches – a wonderful mix of nostalgia and a view to the bright future of this 40-year old organization.
In his opening remarks, Geva’s Executive Director, Tom Parrish commented, “At the heart of a community is its culture, and the stories its people tell. These are your stories, and we are proud that Geva has been telling those stories for 40 years as your professional theatre.”
A beautiful evening and a fitting kickoff to our 40th Anniversary Season.
