Let’s sketch a giant squid: 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA

So, we are continuing to gear up for the first 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA workshop on Sunday.

As I mentioned before,  https://gevajournal.wordpress.com/2012/10/09/puppets-invade-geva-20000-leagues-under-the-sea/  , we have been working on this for a few years thru a Henson Foundation Grants, BUT here’s the exciting part – we have never added live actors into the mix before – so it’ll be a whole new world when we add in Broadway favorite Maggie Lacey, Joel Van Liew (who our other playwright Madeleine George calls “a new play secret weapon), and Lou Sumrall, who worked with me at the Humana Festival of New American Plays, and was also at Geva with Biloxi Blues.

We are looking over sketches and storyboards to try to get ready for the workshop.

Here’s some more of our sketches as we storyboard out the first 15 minutes of the show.

Also, here are a few pics from the last time Ludwig and I made a puppet show together (on an award winning production of MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR at Cal Shakes) – we had everything from a 1 foot puppet to a 40 foot puppet….let’s see if we can go even bigger this time.
