It’s beginning to look a lot like…auditions for A Christmas Carol!

ACC 1stNormally, I get a little Scrooge-ish when Christmas stuff starts popping up in September. I watch the back-to-school aisle get flooded overnight with red and green merchandise, and I shake my head at how fast the season rushes in (and stomps all over Halloween and my personal favorite, Thanksgiving).

But there is an exception: when I hear about auditions for the children’s roles in A Christmas Carol, I get a little flutter of holiday spirit. It’s almost time for a new group of young stars to bring their energy, talent and festive spirit to Geva, and that’s one aspect of Christmas that can’t come soon enough!

Here’s the information for those aspiring cast members:

-Auditions will take place on Saturday, September 13 from 9am – 1pm and 2pm-5pm and Sunday, September 14 from 9am – 1pm. Callbacks will be held Sunday from 2pm-6pm.

Auditionees must be between the ages of 5 and 13. Because of union rules, children must not turn 14 until after December 23, 2014.

-Rehearsals for A Christmas Carol (adaptation by Geva Artistic Director Mark Cuddy and music by Gregg Coffin) will commence on Sunday, November 9th. Performances begin on November 26 and run in the Mainstage through December 27.

-There are eight children’s roles, and two casts of children will alternate performances.

-Auditionees should come to the audition with a headshot or photograph to be left with the director and will be required to sing either one verse of a prepared song (please bring sheet music in the correct key) or, if the child does not have sheet music, “Happy Birthday” is acceptable.

-Auditions will take place at Geva Theatre Center, 75 Woodbury Blvd, Rochester NY, 14607 and are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (585) 232-1366, between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
