Our production of In the Heights has been playing to sold out audiences on the Wilson stage.

When the cast isn’t enjoying the enormous success of their show, they’ve been enjoying the Rochester area and raising money for great causes.

Yassmin Alers (who plays Abuela Claudia in our production) has been enjoying the sights.

“I got to enjoy the Wall Therapy murals in the South Wedge area via the Zapster bike.”

And Tony Chiroldes (who plays Kevin in our production) snapped this selfie of his fellow castmates on a break from rehearsal to watch the eclipse.

He also took a trip to The Strong Museum to check out the butterfly reserve.

“One of the wonders in The Strong Museum’s butterfly garden.”

The cast also ushered in Hispanic Heritage Month at Rochester’s City Hall on September 15th with a kick-off celebration. Hispanic Heritage Month continues until October 15th.

But one of their most impressive and important experiences outside of their performances has been raising money for relief efforts in Puerto Rico after the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

When In the Heights’ Tony Award Winning creator and Puerto Rican-American Lin-Manuel Miranda, announced on twitter that he is organizing a massive campaign for hurricane relief, Geva artists and audiences stepped up. In the Heights tells stories of Latinx folks in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City, and our cast is from many of the areas represented in the story.

Since September 21st, the In the Heights team has been collecting donations in the lobby after each performance of the show.

Our numbers keep growing!

Our fundraising for Puerto Rico even got the attention of the Lin-Manuel Miranda on twitter.

And as of October 4th, the In the Heights team have raised $49,650!

Our dream goal is to raise $96,000 dollars (an appropriate In the Heights themed amount of money for this effort).

If you’d like to help us reach our goal in our efforts for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico, come to the theatre – or send a check to the Geva offices.
If you’d like to donate online, visit hispanicfederation.org  – your donation online will not be counted in Geva’s total tally, but all fundraising efforts are appreciated.

In the Heights plays on the Wilson Stage at Geva Theatre Center until October 8th.
